JOSEPH KECKLER

About

Joseph Keckler and an intimate musical ensemble lead the audience through a series of vignettes, each like a stop on a late-night train– from Paris to Hamburg, Michigan to Times Square and the symbolic space of The Crossroads, a place of danger and possibility. Train with No Midnight dances between comedy, commentary and communion. The score features smoky pop songs, propulsive invocations, and leaps into the operatic realm.

Support

Commissioned, developed, and produced by Beth Morrison Projects. Co-Commissioned with the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, and Hopkins Center for the Arts at Dartmouth College. This project was made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, and by public funds from The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.

Press

“Keckler poured his silky baritone voice into acidly witty original songs about such things as nauseating pet names and spending New Year’s Eve on an Amtrak train... he served opera/pop fusion that doesn’t taste like Velveeta.”

Boston Globe

“A provocation of a persuasively distracting kind arrived in the form of the magnetically intriguing, and out-of-the-box talents of writer, composer, and rising performer Joseph Keckler.”

Opera Wire

“The Festival’s breakthrough performance, however, comes from Joseph Keckler, a unicorn of an artist who’s so singularly talented, something has to go seriously awry for him not to become opera-theater’s Next Big Thing.”
